Organic Basics: Softer and More Sustainable Basics
I’ve written about Organic Basics previously, so I was eager try their new Soft Touch collection that’s been described by reviewers as their “softest and most sustainable collection yet”. As a refresher, Organic Basics is one of my favorite brands for every day basics that are good for people and the planet. Sustainability is a major part of their mission and they’ve challenged themselves even more with this new collection.

Brands that don’t settle and continue to innovate and find sustainable solutions, inspire me to share their stories with you here. Organic Basics does just that. Now let’s get to the clothes..
After looking into solutions to make their clothes even more sustainable, they started to explore tencel, a sustainable fabric that’s slowly making it’s way into the activewear space. Tencel lyocell, is softer, lighter and more eco-friendly than even organic cotton. It’s made from eucalyptus trees (koala-food-trees as I nickname them) which use 80% less water in comparison to cotton plants. From the koala-food-ecalyptus trees, a super duper soft material is created and that material makes up the bra and tank top I tried.
I was surprised by how soft the bra and tank top were, especially the tank top. I’ve never felt anything like it and I want to wear it every day. This is the innovation that i’ve been looking for in materials. It glides onto your skin and isn’t irritating in the slightest. I’ve tried lots of clothes and the tank top was one of the first times I paused and was like “Whoa, they’ve done something really really great here”.
I also tried the soft touch lite bra in the color dusty rose. It’s very comfortable and the cut is very flattering. It can easily be paired with a v-neck or an outfit with a low neck. My only feedback is that the little crease lines on each cup can be seen under certain fabrics (barely, as pictured underneath my soft touch tank top above).
I’m all about bralettes, (free the nip), so I’ll be rocking this all year. All in all, I’m a fan. For the triple p’s (people, profit, planet) I give it an 10/10 for positive impact on the planet as well as a 10/10 for people for their ethical manufacturing. For profit I give it a 7/10 because the price-point is a bit steep, but I fully believe the quality won’t degrade and the product will last a while.
